[00:00:05] Speaker A: Hello, hello, hello, everyone.
Welcome back to Weird World Adventures, the podcast. I'm your host, Mallory.
[00:00:11] Speaker B: And I'm your long lost host, Michael.
[00:00:13] Speaker A: It's true.
We're here to show you just how weird this world of ours really is.
[00:00:17] Speaker B: I wasn't sure if I got fired and just nobody let me know.
Just put me Milton in the basement.
[00:00:24] Speaker A: Right.
I mean, really though. I was gonna say we've had so many, like, just guest interviews.
[00:00:32] Speaker B: So many better people than me.
[00:00:34] Speaker A: Wow. Well, you're invited to those. You just say, I don't have to be there. Yay. Bye. That's what you said.
[00:00:40] Speaker B: It's been busy.
[00:00:41] Speaker A: Work well. And like, I feel like the last time we were up in the sound closet, I wasn't that pregnant yet. And I'm like, I'm gonna pop here now.
[00:00:49] Speaker B: What happened?
[00:00:50] Speaker A: This is what eight months looks like.
It's huge.
My belly is huge, guys. I never thought I would be this big in my life and I'm feeling it.
Well, we have some amazing updates, I guess before we really get started here for Weird World, which is exciting.
[00:01:09] Speaker B: Let's hear them.
[00:01:10] Speaker A: Yeah. So first of all, you can now stream Weird World adventures on Plex, which is kind of just universally easy to stream everywhere, which is fabulous. It's going to be on demand on Zumo, which is on a lot of TV. TVs that's like for on Demand, which is great. And we finally, finally, finally, finally, finally got licensed for Tubi.
[00:01:30] Speaker B: Yay.
[00:01:31] Speaker A: Yay. So from what I understand, it's going to take a bit of time to get up on Tubi, but once we're on tubi, we're on Tubi. And it's free to stream everywhere around the world.
[00:01:42] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:01:43] Speaker A: So we're very, very excited about that. So please keep an eye out for Weird World Adventures dropping on Tubi. But of course, in the meantime, you can continue to watch seasons one and two on Amazon prime, on Plex, on Fossum and Zumo, and Relay and Relay.
So lots of opportunities to watch Weird World. And I think since we last spoke, two of our books came out right. We have the Goth Atlas, which you provided a bunch of pictures for, which covers 500 spooky, macabre and dark places around the world. It's a lot of fun. I had a lot of fun writing that one. And then Haunted Hikes of the Great Smoky Mountains.
[00:02:28] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:02:28] Speaker A: Came out, which is really exciting. So that is now available pretty much wherever books are sold.
[00:02:35] Speaker B: There's some cool hikes out there.
[00:02:36] Speaker A: Really. There's some cool Hikes.
Agree, Fish.
And then in, I believe, eight days, Secret Virginia, right? Yeah. Secret Virginia. A guide to the Weird, Wonderful and obscure will come out, which is like your weird guide to places you have to see in Virginia that are just
[00:02:56] Speaker B: really weird and that you wouldn't know about. You wouldn't know about less famous places.
[00:03:01] Speaker A: Yeah, definitely. So lots of books, lots of fun things. We have a bunch of signing opportunities coming up, which I'll talk about here in the next one. But for now, we wanted to talk to you guys about, Gosh, several months ago at this point, which seems crazy.
[00:03:16] Speaker B: July.
[00:03:17] Speaker A: July, we went on a really fun, amazing family getaway to Massanutton Resort.
Yes. And it was great.
[00:03:25] Speaker B: It was very cool.
I had always thought of it as a ski resort exclusively.
[00:03:31] Speaker A: That's kind of always been their shtick. Like here in Virginia, it's like, oh, you're either going to Wintergreen or Massanutton, and those are the two places to ski. And that's. That's what I knew it for, too.
[00:03:40] Speaker B: And I don't ski, so they were never on my list.
[00:03:43] Speaker A: But turns out Mass and Nutton Resort is this great. Like, it's great all year, but they have, like, very different activities that you can go do in the summer, which was really fun. We kind of hit up their. Their summer endeavors to see it from a different side, which was very cool. And it's kind of all up this mountain. You kind of go up on this mountain and everything is hidden back there in different areas.
[00:04:10] Speaker B: Yeah. If you stay in the resort, it's all kind of closed off in the mountains in that little resort, and it has pretty much everything you'd need.
[00:04:19] Speaker A: Yeah, there's all kinds of lodging, but we stayed in, like, the timeshare condos, and those were really cool.
[00:04:25] Speaker B: Just a full house.
[00:04:26] Speaker A: Yeah, it was a full house.
Full house. Really nicely, like, decorated. It was. It was kind of bougie.
[00:04:35] Speaker B: I know you like it.
[00:04:36] Speaker A: Bougie. I like the bouge.
And it has the washer and dryer in there, which is just really practical when you're traveling with a toddler.
I'm like, this is great.
Have a dryer for when it rains and all of our stuff.
[00:04:49] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:04:51] Speaker A: The big screen, the living room. You know what? It was really funny because it was the first time our daughter Autumn ever had to experience just, like, basic cable.
[00:05:01] Speaker B: Oh, right.
[00:05:02] Speaker A: Yeah, it was still cable, but it wasn't like, you know, 200 channels. It was like, you know, here's 30 channels you can move from.
[00:05:09] Speaker B: Yeah, I don't Want this? Well, it's what's on.
Sorry.
[00:05:13] Speaker A: There was one kid's channel and then the second channel that sometimes played kids movies, and that was it.
[00:05:19] Speaker B: And she's like, listen here, kiddo. In my time, I had one channel. One channel.
No joke. I was in Okinawa.
[00:05:28] Speaker A: One channel.
[00:05:29] Speaker B: Oh, my God. For three years.
Well, there was one English speaking channel,
[00:05:35] Speaker A: so yep, yep, one channel.
[00:05:38] Speaker B: And it was mostly Nickelodeon. So from my age. Yeah, from my age. This is fun.
[00:05:43] Speaker A: Nickelodeon was fun.
[00:05:44] Speaker B: I get to watch Doug and Rugrats.
[00:05:45] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:05:46] Speaker B: And Ren and Stimpy and Rocco's Modern Life and hey, Arnold.
[00:05:49] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:05:50] Speaker B: Salute. Your shorts. I just keep going here. I know. So really, I didn't care. But there was one channel.
[00:05:56] Speaker A: There was one channel.
[00:05:58] Speaker B: Or you could watch the Japanese stations, which had incredible commercials. Just over the top, like, you know, I'm sure weird in the best way. Weird. Japanese, like crazy.
You know, they're selling you something. But I'm like, don't have any idea. But I. I don't have no idea what you're asking me to buy, but I appreciate the energy.
[00:06:21] Speaker A: I remember being stuck in a hotel room one night in Buenos Aires in Argentina and putting the TV on. I don't know, I even thought, like, I'm gonna put the TV on. But I think this was back before I traveled with the, like, laptop, so. Because it was like college, right? And I'm like. So I put the TV on and it was like the weirdest games to show and somebody's dressed up like a lobster, and you're just like, I don't know what's happening here, but this is. It's captivated my attention. I have no idea what's happening. It's reminds me of.
But she. She found out that. So the kids station, it played Wild Kratts, which is like one of her shows. So she was all about that, but just rarely.
And Bluey. And then those are the two approved shows. And then everything else was just, but I want Bluey. But I want Wild Kratz. I'm like, well, this is what you got.
[00:07:10] Speaker B: It looks like it comes on in three hours.
[00:07:12] Speaker A: So she watched that new Disney Descendants movie like seven times and was like, I don't want to watch this again. I'm like, well, this or nothing.
[00:07:22] Speaker B: Good, let's go do something else.
[00:07:25] Speaker A: But I mean, there's so many things to do at Massanutten. I don't even know where to start. But I'll start, like going up the mountain in my brain here. The water park was amazing.
[00:07:36] Speaker B: Yeah, that Was very cool. I had no idea they had a water park. There was just a full scale water park.
[00:07:42] Speaker A: Yeah. And it's expanding where they're building a resort that's attached to the water park and that the new building for it has like slides coming out of it. So it's expanding even more.
But they have like a whole cabana set up for the adults too. So it was like, oh, we have this nice little, like two person cabana area.
And we can order food and have our own waiter the whole time. Food and drinks.
And then she was all about the wave pool.
[00:08:09] Speaker B: The wave pool? Yeah.
I will say I was hesitant at first because, you know, she can kind of swim, just not, you know.
[00:08:18] Speaker A: Right.
[00:08:18] Speaker B: And has not been in a wave pool or 600 people.
But she got out just enough where she could lay kind of flat and float. And then she would swim against the waves but make no progress. Like, the wave would push her back in. So she kind of was just stationary. And I don't know if she kind of caught on that, but she'd just be swimming away and not moving at all.
And I just was sitting there like, no, this is great.
She can't overcome the wave and I don't have to move.
[00:08:49] Speaker A: It was great. She loved it. And it's funny that then when we went to the beach, she was like, but I want the wave pool. Like. Like, in her mind, like, the beach should be like the wave pool. And then the ocean was no longer acceptable for her.
And they had like a. I mean, I will say the outside was cool. They had a bunch of little pools and slides and they had the wave
[00:09:12] Speaker B: pool, but then kind of segregated for, like, different age groups too, which was good.
[00:09:17] Speaker A: And the inside had like the big giant, like, you know, climby play area where they have the bucket dropping water on you every so often.
Bunch of slides. And it had like a lazy river around it, which was nice too.
And it started storming and you could just go inside and then the party continues inside. Right. So that was great.
So it still. It still had that, like.
[00:09:39] Speaker B: And it got. It got crowded. Yeah, but it wasn't.
It wasn't unusable. Like, everybody from outside came inside and.
[00:09:46] Speaker A: Yeah, like.
[00:09:47] Speaker B: Yeah, we had. We had still seats and everything.
[00:09:49] Speaker A: Yeah, it was good.
And the lazy river, that was the most like, rule managed lazy river I've ever seen with like 17 lifeguards on that lazy river.
[00:10:01] Speaker B: They took that seriously. All the other stuff was kind of just do whatever.
[00:10:06] Speaker A: Yes, it was. And then I like, felt like a beached whale because I couldn't even get in the float because I.
I was already pregnant enough at that point to struggle getting in the float. The tube.
[00:10:18] Speaker B: Yeah.
And then we brought your GoPro.
And she was holding the GoPro. So I had her eye. My eyes on her holding the GoPro. And I lost my damn goggles. There's somewhere floating in that lazy river
[00:10:32] Speaker A: all because, I mean, well, to be fair, that was a very, like, high security, lazy river. And if you lost that GoPro, it's gone. I mean, good luck finding it.
They're like, you can't stop. You can't go back. You can't do this. You have to sit in your float.
[00:10:47] Speaker B: I got stuck. They have one area where there's, like, a little accessory dip off.
[00:10:52] Speaker A: Yeah, I lost you.
[00:10:53] Speaker B: And I couldn't get out of it.
I turned left into it, and I could not get. It took me eight laps to get out of. To get back on the main path because everyone just bump into you. Just get bumped back in.
[00:11:09] Speaker A: And you were in this person one. So you had to have your feet up.
[00:11:11] Speaker B: Right. So I had no control, really, over the thing.
[00:11:15] Speaker A: Yeah, I. I realized I made a mistake because I. I got in the singular tube, like, floating all the way up on it, which was just a problem because I was like a beached whale because I was pregnant. And then I was like, you know, I should, like. They let you, like, hang through the middle. I was like, I should be doing that because I'll have better control over everything. But then I, like, couldn't get to that position because my belly was too big.
So that was.
That was. He's, like, moving and grooving right now.
Yeah, he just, like, fully kicks and moves and rolls around, and you can just watch. Oh, you can just watch my belly, like, move around right now. It's really bizarre, you guys.
Anyway, the water park was great, and they're expanding it, and that's only gonna get better.
And then, gosh, we did. They had mini golf. There's tons of stuff for, like, families to do.
And me and Autumn, we did the. The ski lift. So they still have one of the ski lifts going all the way up to, like, the Black Diamond Trail at the top. Right. But in the summer, but just for. For families to kind of hike and get, like, a view of the whole surrounding area. And it was a little intimidating because it was. It was just me and Autumn, and she luckily had a healthy enough fear because she could have just slid right out of that thing. Right. I mean, like, it was like, this is. This feels unsafe, but, like, she has a healthy fear of, like, I could just fall out of here.
[00:12:41] Speaker B: It's just normal ski lift, right?
[00:12:43] Speaker A: It's a normal ski lift. So we were up on that, and we start moving, and she was like, I'm unsure of this. And I was like, don't worry. I got you. This is fun, isn't it? You know, because it could have gone. It could have gone. I'm freaking out. And it didn't. She was like, oh, yeah, this is great. So we kind of just like, got into it and sat there, and she wanted me to, like, have my arm on her. And I was like, this is good. I'm not gonna. I'm not gonna not have my arm on you. So we're in agreement here.
And we're, like, going up and kicking our feet. And she, like, was a little pro at getting on and off. Like, I had to lift her up on.
But she was like. She had it down. Like, we were. We were in a groove. And then, because you had to do two to get up to the top. Top.
[00:13:18] Speaker B: Oh, you have to get off one.
[00:13:20] Speaker A: So there's, like, one that's kind of flat that just kind of takes you, like, not that far, and then there's one that goes up the hill really steep.
And the, like, the steep one was a little scary, but it was. It was fun. And we got up there and we hiked to, like, the peak, and it was kind of a hike, but she did it. Like, we had a good time. I was surprised. There was no complaining.
And then we got, like, kind of towards the edge of the cliff. I was like, well, I need to get some pictures. But I was like, why don't you stay and watch my backpack? And she was like, oh, yeah, I'm on this. Like, she. She had a mission, so she was with the backpack, so she didn't get too close.
[00:13:58] Speaker B: She's good with missions.
[00:13:59] Speaker A: She is.
So that was. That was really fun.
And then there was the day that I kayaked.
[00:14:07] Speaker B: Oh, yeah.
[00:14:08] Speaker A: If we had.
[00:14:10] Speaker B: It sounded like a lot of fun, but my ass was not getting up. How early in the morning did you get up?
[00:14:15] Speaker A: It was like 7, 6, 30. It was. It was early. I had to get up early.
And it was more like it was just us in autumn, and she was too small to do the canoe. And so they originally had, like, me and you doing a canoe.
[00:14:30] Speaker B: Right.
[00:14:30] Speaker A: And then. And then it was like, well, she's too little, so only one person can go.
[00:14:34] Speaker B: Right, right, right.
[00:14:35] Speaker A: So then it was like, well, if only one person is going, we're going to change this canoe reservation to a kayak, right? So they made it a kayak, which is fine, because I'm perfectly fine kayaking. And I'm sitting here thinking, like, well, surely, like, they know I'm pregnant. There's, like, a guide. This is gonna be easy. If I get tired, someone will drag me. You know, like, the whole, like, I've kayaked in Hawaii, and that's how it is, right? But no, no. This was like, we get on this old, old school bus, fashioned, like, lodge bus now. And the guy's like, all right, you're going to be kayaking five miles down the Shenandoah River. Between this time and this time, we're letting you off here. And there is no more public land until you land here. So if you get stuck in there, you're on your own. You have to call 91 1. Like, I mean. I mean, he started prepping everybody for it. And I was like, should I not do this? Like, he's like, if you want to turn around, turn around right now. It's fine. You tell me. And I'm like, gosh, maybe I shouldn't do this. And I was really like, well, I'm going to be really embarrassed if I don't go, but I feel like maybe I would die if I do go.
He's like, there's level one class rapids. I'm like, I'm gonna kill myself and this baby.
[00:15:50] Speaker B: Level one are so.
[00:15:50] Speaker A: They're so nothing.
But if you don't know, there's no, like, measurement to guide it by. Right? You're just like, rapids. What do you mean? I've never kayaked on rapids before.
[00:16:01] Speaker B: Level one and two, you, like, kind of don't notice.
[00:16:05] Speaker A: It was.
It was set up to be like, I don't know if I should do this.
[00:16:11] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:16:12] Speaker A: And I mean, it was, like, gonna be three straight hours of kayaking, right? I'm like, my arms are gonna be tremendously destroyed. And they said part of it's like, on the river with the rapids, and then part of it's just, like, flat water. You're on your own. You're like this. All your arms, you know, and then they're like, if you don't make it by this time, we're leaving. We leave without you, we'll know that you're there, and we'll come back to check on you when we can.
I mean, it was. It was so scary that I was like, I don't Know if I could. But then you see the other people there, and you're like, well, maybe I can do that. I don't know. I don't know.
[00:16:47] Speaker B: You had no problem.
[00:16:48] Speaker A: I had no problem. So then when we actually started doing it, I will say it was a breeze. It was no problem. I felt pretty good that I was, like, pretty pregnant. I think it was, like, five months pregnant at that point. And I kayaked five miles. I was like, I feel true.
[00:17:01] Speaker B: She's a little bit pregnant.
[00:17:02] Speaker A: Yeah, Right.
[00:17:03] Speaker B: That's how that works.
[00:17:04] Speaker A: Just a little bit. And I kayaked five miles. I was like, dang. I really. I killed it. I was very proud of myself. The rapids were. They weren't difficult, but the water level was low enough so that there was, like, rocks sticking up. People were getting stuck. Yeah, you're getting. The problem is you're getting stuck, and you have to get out to try to, like, unstick yourself. That was the problem.
But I didn't get. I got stuck once. But you can, like. They show you how to boot scoot yourself like that. Like, just, like, push it, and then you kind of free. You can most the time get free. Otherwise, you have to get out and move it around. But I. I got stuck once, and it was just to. Let me just scoot my butt and I'll get out. And I did. And other than that, I didn't get stuck. It was nice. The. The rapids helped you, because then you're not, like. Like, having to, like, row that hard.
So you're conserving strength at that point. Right. For the rest of it, when it gets still and it was cool. It was beautiful. I mean, it's a Shenandoah River. It's very pretty, but it was. It was intimidating, but then very worth it.
[00:18:07] Speaker B: Yeah. Did I ever tell you when I. Me and my friends took a bachelor party to the Lower Gully. There's an upper lower Gully in West Virginia.
[00:18:17] Speaker A: Those are the rapids.
[00:18:18] Speaker B: That's, like, the big. Those are the. I think they're the biggest ones on the east coast.
[00:18:21] Speaker A: Oh, my God.
[00:18:24] Speaker B: So we did the Lower Gully, which is the easier of the two.
[00:18:27] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:18:27] Speaker B: But I mean, obviously they were, like, not around.
[00:18:30] Speaker A: Right.
[00:18:31] Speaker B: Hold in my French.
But they.
When we were signing up for it, they were like, okay, so, like, you guys whitewater raft a lot? And we're like, well, no, but we're all very athletic, which was also a lie.
[00:18:49] Speaker A: Mm.
[00:18:50] Speaker B: I think I'd be the only. I think I might have been the only one who'd Ever whitewater rafted. And that was. You can whitewater raft on the James, right Downtown Richmond. And I think the. The worst. It has one level three rapid.
[00:19:02] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:19:02] Speaker B: In fall when it's, like, adequately filled.
[00:19:04] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:19:05] Speaker B: But these are, like fours and fives.
[00:19:07] Speaker A: Oh, my God.
[00:19:09] Speaker B: And I mean, we get to the part. We get to a part, and our guy's like, all right, everybody needs to, like, get good. Like, get well situated on this one. He's like, you do not want to fall out here. He's like, doesn't really matter if you fall other places. But like, this. This is.
[00:19:23] Speaker A: Can you hold onto something?
[00:19:25] Speaker B: You have a handrail, but you're also paddling.
You're jammed in with a leg. It has, like, you, like, jam in a leg underneath the tubing, and you're, like, holding on with one hand and paddling. Like, you're using the paddle as kind of a counterbalance to keep you in the. Okay, I'm no pro, but. Yeah, you're not really, like, holding on.
[00:19:44] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah.
[00:19:46] Speaker B: Because you also have to paddle to get through to steer the rapids. And you kind of all have to be in sync to get it to go. You know, it's like a 10 kayak.
All right.
[00:19:57] Speaker A: Right.
[00:19:59] Speaker B: And we. And he's like. He's like, yeah. See that rock over there? That rock has an undercut to it. So, like, if you get, like, sucked under it, we can't get to, like, people drown under there. Like, just do not fall out here. And we make it through or at the bot, like, you know, kind of, like coasting on the bottom of that section. And then all of a sudden, we hear there's a lot of people out there from different companies kind of doing it. And all of a sudden, we just hear all these whistles going off, like, up and down that area. Because the boat behind us, a guy did fall off.
And I have never seen, like, someone's eyes that wide. Like, you know, just. They were. They were dinner plate, just white giant. And he's just bobbing like.
Like in the water. Cause I'm sure he got the same spiel.
And there's just this head bobbing, and everyone's, like, trying to, like, get to
[00:20:54] Speaker A: maneuver to get to him.
[00:20:55] Speaker B: And we were at the bottom.
So our guide's just like, all right. We're like, we're turning around. Turn here, turn here.
And we, like, get it so that he's going to come up one of the sides by you, by us. And Sean happened to be in the. Like, we were switching. Who was like, front, who was moving throughout the thing.
And it has to be Sean as, like, the guy. We're like, all right, get ready. Put your paddle in. Like, you're going to grab him how we taught you. And you dunk them first to get, like, force. Yeah. You, like, push them under the water, and then fully, like, lean your whole body.
They bob out like a little cork.
[00:21:31] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:21:32] Speaker B: And then you just pull them on top of you. Like, you both fall into the rafts. You're not trying to, like, finagle them. You're not trying to arm, strengthen them. You dump them and, like, pull them back, and they fall on top of you. And Sean grabs them by the vest, and the guy's just like, you know, saucer, wide saucer, wide eyes, like. And Sean just does.
Sorry, buddy. And just dunks. Just dunks him and pulls him back in.
Our ref did it, and then he
[00:22:02] Speaker A: forced him to buy him drinks. Yeah.
[00:22:03] Speaker B: He found the guy later at the bar and was like, so remember when I saved you? Seems like drinks should be on the house.
I know. Classy.
[00:22:12] Speaker A: Classy. That is really good. Oh, my gosh.
[00:22:16] Speaker B: So none of that.
[00:22:17] Speaker A: Right?
[00:22:17] Speaker B: We have to deal with any of that.
[00:22:19] Speaker A: Right?
[00:22:19] Speaker B: Right.
[00:22:19] Speaker A: Good. Good stuff. Oh, my God. That's so good. Yeah. This was a piece. This is a nice, serene kayak down the Shenandoah River. But he really made it seem like that. And once I got out at the end, I told him, I was like, you had me really concerned. I was like, because I'm pregnant. If it was just normal, Mallory, I don't think I would have been that concerned. But I'm pregnant. I'm like, I don't know what I can and can't do right now. I'm still learning.
[00:22:45] Speaker B: You're expendable.
[00:22:46] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:22:46] Speaker B: I want the kids.
[00:22:47] Speaker A: Right.
But, like, you know, but. But he's like, well, you know, sometimes people bring, like, little kids, and, like, he's like. That's why I realized I have to be, like, firm.
[00:22:58] Speaker B: It's like a weed out. Yeah.
[00:22:59] Speaker A: You have to weed out. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:23:01] Speaker B: The weaklings.
[00:23:03] Speaker A: But that was. That was a lot of fun. And then. And the thing that I think also kind of surprised me that was really great was, like, the. The hangout spots.
[00:23:11] Speaker B: The food was great, some great restaurants, and they're just all very open.
[00:23:17] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:23:18] Speaker B: With, like, activities for kids to like.
[00:23:20] Speaker A: Yeah. I think the Campfire Grill was my favorite because they had that s'. Mores. Not that I could enjoy it, but the s' mores martini looked so good, and they had like, the marshmallows toasted on top. Yeah. And it had, like, delicious, like. Like, baked fries. Like, they did a lot of, like, pan baking. And it was delicious.
It was really good.
And. And everything, you know, like, they had, like, the. The wooden. Like. Like, fun camp, like, stuff. Like, it was a very gimmicky but, like, fun.
[00:23:52] Speaker B: Yeah. Like, bonfire type stuff. Yeah.
[00:23:55] Speaker A: And then. I know base camp was great.
[00:23:57] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:23:58] Speaker A: That was like. We were there the first night, and I'm like, oh, this is so casual. And you're just kind of sitting outside and it's hot, and you're like, no, this is actually really awesome.
They had that giant pretzel.
[00:24:08] Speaker B: Oh, that was pretty good.
[00:24:10] Speaker A: With beer, cheese. And Autumn was all about that pretzel. She was like, remember that pretzel? Look how big that pretzel is. Yeah.
[00:24:18] Speaker B: That was fun.
[00:24:19] Speaker A: And then it was like I was being taunted because it was wine night.
They had, like, the. It was like, like, $4, like, flight of wines and. And, like, all the different kinds. And I was like, man, if I wasn't pregnant, this would be great. And I. I literally almost got one just to take a photo of it
[00:24:38] Speaker B: and smell it and smell it.
[00:24:41] Speaker A: So I can't enjoy alcoholic beverages, but I can smell them.
And my sense of smell has been more heightened, and it's just like, I can kind of, like, get this sensation of what it tastes like if I just smell it.
Right.
So just smell the wine flight. It would have been great. I wish I did that, because then we went back the next day. Like, I'm gonna get it, and I'm gonna smell it. I'm gonna take the picture. And they're like, oh, that was just on Tuesday. Whatever the day was.
[00:25:06] Speaker B: Tuesday wine flight day. No.
[00:25:08] Speaker A: Or Wednesday, whatever it was.
[00:25:09] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:25:10] Speaker A: Wednesday wine, probably.
Yeah. No.
[00:25:15] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:25:15] Speaker A: But it was cool because that's, like, it was the center, like, where people would get their, like, ski gear.
[00:25:21] Speaker B: Yeah. I think it's. I think when it's ski season, that slope that. It's, like, there was, like, stuff set up to do.
[00:25:28] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:25:29] Speaker B: But that slope is one of the, like, finishing areas.
[00:25:32] Speaker A: Well, it's called base camp, so that makes it slide.
[00:25:34] Speaker B: And then they have that, like, partially indoor, partially outdoor, like, bar.
[00:25:38] Speaker A: Yeah. They can, like, close it off and.
[00:25:40] Speaker B: Yeah. So I think people ski up to it, basically.
[00:25:42] Speaker A: Yeah, exactly. Yeah. I've. I've. I've, like, done it before, but I was. I was a kid. Right. So I, like, kind of remember, but they had multiple ski lifts going out from that spot. So, well, this is clearly the hub where people are skiing from the base camp. The base camp. Thematic name.
Very, very thematic name. So that was great. So there were some really amazing places to eat. And we would just keep going back there.
[00:26:07] Speaker B: Oh, definitely.
[00:26:08] Speaker A: Over and over.
[00:26:10] Speaker B: And then the adventure park.
[00:26:11] Speaker A: The adventure park. Oh, my gosh. The main reason we went, they have an adventure park which has, like, a ropes course, which would have been fun if I wasn't pregnant.
[00:26:22] Speaker B: What it means to be, like, a.
[00:26:24] Speaker A: A little bit older.
[00:26:24] Speaker B: Probably a year older.
[00:26:25] Speaker A: But yeah, they had, like, the tubing. Tubing.
[00:26:28] Speaker B: Tubing would have been fine.
[00:26:29] Speaker A: Would have been great. But when we went. So they. They have this new roller coaster called Mountain Mayhem.
[00:26:36] Speaker B: It was cool.
[00:26:37] Speaker A: It was cool. It was like one of those alpine coasters where you're kind of like in your own little seat and it's a very, like, low to the ground, like, single person. You're gonna go on these tracks and twist all around the mountain.
[00:26:49] Speaker B: But, yeah, it's.
[00:26:50] Speaker A: Yeah, it was very cool. And they were very happy to have just opened it and announced it. And it's the first alpine coaster in the area.
[00:26:58] Speaker B: That's why they want. Why we went. Right. Because they were just opening this coaster.
[00:27:01] Speaker A: Yes.
And so we were able to bring Autumn, which was great. She fit the requirements for it. So you went with her. Yeah. And you wore the GoPro and I wore the GoPro. And it was one of those things where I think at first I was like, well, I just can't do that because I'm pregnant. But then we saw it, and it was so, like, you can actually adjust your speed.
[00:27:21] Speaker B: Yeah. You have some control over it, which is cool.
[00:27:23] Speaker A: Yeah. Like, you. There's a thing, and you can. You can control it entirely as long as you don't just stop it. There's. There. There's a way you can accidentally just stop it.
And so when I found that out, I was like, you know what? I can do this. And it was great. And I'm glad I did it. It was not. It was not extreme.
[00:27:38] Speaker B: And yeah, it's a ways up on the mountain, but you're.
You're kind of always alongside the mountain. You're not like. You're not like, towering over the mountaintop. Yeah.
[00:27:48] Speaker A: You're, like, twisting around.
[00:27:49] Speaker B: You're, like, around mountain.
[00:27:50] Speaker A: Yeah. And I'm glad I went first because in Autumn got to see, and she was like, oh, this isn't that bad. And I'm like, waving.
[00:27:56] Speaker B: And that was her first coaster.
[00:27:58] Speaker A: It was her first coaster.
[00:27:59] Speaker B: But, yeah, I Had her in front of me.
I remember we. You're also.
It does a good job. Like, while you're going up, you're not ever really high.
[00:28:10] Speaker A: No.
[00:28:10] Speaker B: Like, because you are just trailing the mountain. So, like, you're only a few feet off the ground. Like, you're getting high from the starting point, but you're like, if you fell out of it.
[00:28:19] Speaker A: Yeah, exactly.
[00:28:19] Speaker B: You wouldn't fall more than three. Three or four feet. And you're literally, like, yeah, waist high. But we get to the top, where it kind of turns over, where you're gonna, like, do some, like. No, upside down. Just side, like, loops. And she was like, it's gonna be okay. It's like, oh, it's gonna be fun. And then we took the first little, and she's like, make it go faster.
[00:28:38] Speaker A: So gray. Faster.
[00:28:39] Speaker B: Yes. It was immediately all of it.
[00:28:40] Speaker A: Right.
And somehow I stopped it too early.
[00:28:43] Speaker B: Nah, you messed it up. At the end.
[00:28:45] Speaker A: I was like, a foot off, and I was like, man. And the woman acted like she was gonna have to do something. And I was like, hold on. I just did kayaking. I can boot scoot this. And I actually boot scooted it the last foot. And I was like, oh, yeah, I made it. She's like, yeah, keep doing that. It's gonna work. And I'm like, great, I got this. I'm gonna keep booting, scooting it until I get over there.
[00:29:00] Speaker B: Way to go.
[00:29:01] Speaker A: I know.
[00:29:02] Speaker B: Broke it at the end.
[00:29:03] Speaker A: Dang it.
And then I'm like, could you imagine if you just stopped it somewhere on there? That would be horrible.
Yeah, that would be h.
But it was. It was really great. And then they had, like, a mining for gems.
[00:29:18] Speaker B: That might have been her favorite.
[00:29:19] Speaker A: That was her favorite thing.
Autumn. We kept asking, like, what was your favorite part? She's like, the gems. The gems where she got a giant bag of gems, and she got to, like, sift the dirt.
[00:29:30] Speaker B: Sifting through it was cool. I had a whole, like, water wheel.
[00:29:33] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:29:34] Speaker B: Like, you know, mining for gold. Sifting through.
[00:29:37] Speaker A: Yeah. And, like, the bags had, like, a certain number of, like, this ton of gems. So the kids get really excited because they find something, and it has a
[00:29:44] Speaker B: little sheet of paper, like, matches the.
[00:29:46] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:29:47] Speaker B: This is what you got.
[00:29:48] Speaker A: We found this and this and this. And I will say, she stood in that beaming sun the whole time. I was like, can we go in the shade over here? It's a nice spot in the shade. Now I want to be right here.
[00:29:58] Speaker B: She gets a tan.
[00:30:00] Speaker A: Well turned red like a tomato. I do Not. And they had good pools there too.
[00:30:05] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean obviously there's the water park, but kind of each section of housing also had its own pool.
[00:30:12] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:30:13] Speaker B: So yeah, there were several. Just nice pools.
[00:30:15] Speaker A: Yeah. There was like a small regular pool like right in our neighborhood that we were in. Like we could. We walked to.
[00:30:20] Speaker B: Right. There was a much bigger indoor outdoor pool.
[00:30:22] Speaker A: Yeah. Which was really cool. Like they had like the mushroom that she liked and it was the first time she ever had to experience adult swim with us anyway because she either goes to swim lessons or we have our own pool.
So.
[00:30:37] Speaker B: So there's like, why am I getting out?
[00:30:40] Speaker A: Well, you have to adult swim.
[00:30:41] Speaker B: Adults only.
[00:30:42] Speaker A: What? What? Why?
[00:30:43] Speaker B: Why?
[00:30:44] Speaker A: Like what are you talking about? Apparently she did it at your parents pool. But I like, I had never seen that happen. She. She was very like perplexed. Like, what do you mean?
[00:30:53] Speaker B: It's funny.
[00:30:55] Speaker A: Not happy about adult swim. And then.
Yeah, that was, that was, that was pretty good adult swim.
But yeah, it was, it was wonderful. Overall. I mean we had a great experience. It was a great. Just like relaxing, but also fun.
Like not relaxing, but like, you know, this is a fun, not like stressful, just like family fun.
[00:31:21] Speaker B: It's nice that everything's there too. Like you're within five minutes of any of like all the stuff once you're on the campus.
[00:31:27] Speaker A: Right.
So it was great. If you guys. First of all, obviously Massanutten is Massanutten and if you ski, you know you're going to want to go there in the winter. But it's definitely worth the experience in the spring and the summer and the fall too.
[00:31:41] Speaker B: Yeah, it just wasn't on my radar as a non ski opportunity and now it is.
[00:31:47] Speaker A: They're a Four Seasons resort. That's what they say all year round.
[00:31:51] Speaker B: I'd definitely go back next year. Yeah, it was great.
[00:31:54] Speaker A: It was really fun and it was nice to just like the three of us like get away.
And she's also. I will say I love that autumn is just. She's a night owl and during the summer she is on our schedule and she's like gonna.
We put her in bed at a normal time, but she will stay up till midnight and then she will get up at 10 in the morning and I'm like, well, this is great. I approve of this message.
It's not good during the school year, but it's good during the summer. Yes, yes. But thank you guys for tuning in. I hope you enjoyed hearing about Massanutten Resort and I will follow up here shortly in the next podcast. It'll be brief, but we'll talk about the book signings that we have coming up and the books that have released and all that good stuff.
[00:32:41] Speaker B: Yeah, we have five book signings, is that correct?
[00:32:46] Speaker A: Yes, there are five book signs. Exciting.
[00:32:48] Speaker B: Yeah. So through the next couple months, we'll do five live ones and then you can also buy slime copies through MallorySadventures.com
[00:32:58] Speaker A: look at us being in sync. And make sure you check out Weird World Adventures all over your TV screens now, wherever. I'm not just going to say Amazon Prime. No, you can type in Weird World Adventures into your TV and it will prompt you where you can watch it. And pretty soon it'll be on 2B2.
[00:33:13] Speaker B: And we will announce that when that happens as well.
[00:33:15] Speaker A: Yes.
I'm your host, Mallory.
[00:33:18] Speaker B: And I'm your host, Michael.
[00:33:19] Speaker A: And until next time, everybody stay weird.
